Safari Tours
The allure of a Rwanda safari centers around the possibility of coming face-to-face with the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. The experience is entirely amplified on a privately-guided tour where you’re traveling at your own pace knowing that you’ll be taken care of every step of the way.
Kensington Tours’ seasoned Destination Experts specialize in planning tailor-made tours that will maximize your time with Rwanda’s gorillas. Our experts can also help you to decide whether or not to add on a few days to search for chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest and experience a game drive to see lions, giraffes and hyenas in Akagera National Park.

EXCELLENT Based on 11 reviews Sambomtl2018-01-31Verified Tanzania Safari - organized by Kensington Tours My husband and I went on a wonderful 1 week safari in Tanzania, organized by Kensington Tours. We started off in Arusha, moved on to Ngorongoro Crater and finished with a few days in the Serengeti. This truly was an experience of a lifetime. Our driver, ELI, was with us for the full trip, and was incredibly interesting, pleasant and knowledgeable - we consider ourselves very lucky to have had him as our guide. We stayed at the Rivertree Inn in Arusha, which was beautiful, good service and good food. Then we moved on to the Ngorongoro Farm House - welcomed by warm towels to wipe the sweat and dust off after a long drive, along with cookies and iced tea! The cabins are beautiful, beds comfortable, food delicious and relaxing by the pool after a day of safari was great. The Ngorongoro crater was stunning, where our driver Eli showed lions, hippos, elephants, ostrich, rhino, and too many zebras/water buffalo/birds/ungulates to count! Finally, we ended our trip in the Serengeti, staying at Mbalageti Camp, where we saw so many animals, and the most incredible landscapes. Our driver Eli worked tirelessly for us to spot a cheetah kill, leopard, lions (at one point a pride of 30 ), elephants (40-50 all together) and the list goes on and on. The view in the morning from our breakfast table was breathtaking, some mornings we couldn't leave our cabin for 30-40mins due to elephants being right next to us, and in the late afternoons a swim in the infinity pool overlooking the most beautiful landscape with animals dotted throughout was a dream. I highly recommend this trip, the camps we stayed in, and by far, our INCREDIBLE DRIVER ELI! ronandandrea2016-12-29Verified Kensington Safari - Tanzania Just returned from a WONDERFUL 7 day safari arranged by Kensington to Arusha, Terengire, Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti. Saw all sorts of wildlife up close from the safety of an 8 passenger Toyota LandCruiser including elephants, lions, cheetahs, leopards, rhino, wildebeest, zebra, impala, jackal and a range of antelope. Bear in mind roads are mostly dirt roads - so they are dusty and bumpy. LandCruiser handled them well. Kensington was very responsive, providing a personalized trip summary customized to our family of 5 (all adults) prior to the trip including detailed itinerary, travel preparation recommendations, recommendation on what to bring (and what not to bring) and detailed contact information. All 3 accommodations were all excellent (and we did the value package, not the deluxe): Maramboi Tented Camp, Farmhouse Valley Lodge and Kubu Kubu Tented Camp. Each had clean comfortable rooms, excellent food, hot showers (remember comment about dusty roads...) and had clean water for all guests. Views were spectacular, especially in tents, with wildlife visible (and audible). Woke up in Maramboi and Kubu Kubu to wildebeest grazing. Guests were walked to rooms with security to ensure no problems with animals or with wandering off of well marked paths. Each location has an outdoor pool - both tents had infinity pools overlooking the wildlife. Amazing. Our personal guide was Martin Nzwalla. Martin was absolutely OUTSTANDING - a 16 year veteran who was very professional and truly an expert on the country, the parks and the wildlife we were observing. Martin became a friend and confidant very quickly - charming, funny, accommodating, very knowledgeable and with excellent English skills. Martin asked us daily when we wanted to start and explained the goals for the day - and then met / exceeded our expectations. I will ask for him by name next time we want a guide in Tanzania. If you are considering a safari to Tanzania, I strongly recommend Kensington as the tour company - they are great. And make sure you ask for Martin Nzwalla to be your guide. Susanjbrandt2015-02-02Verified Kensington Tours - Trip Report My family just returned from an amazing trip with Kensington to the Serengeti. We stayed at their tented camp. The staff was amazing, the food was great, and the animal sightings were unbelievable. We saw lots of lions, cheetahs (even a mother cheetah taking down a gazelle while her 2 cubs watched), hippos, zebras, elephants, giraffes, ostriches, hyenas, jackals, lots of wildebeests and even wild dogs taking down a wildebeest. We say a baby wildebeest take its first steps after birth and a gazelle that had just been born. Our guide, GoodLuck, could always seem to find the best animals in the area and each day was a different exciting adventure. We also visited a Masai village and enjoyed interacting with the children and seeing how a different culture lives. Everything was first class, clean and everyone did everything they could to make our stay special. We also enjoyed getting to know other travelers at dinner and around the campfire each night. Thanks, Kensington, for memories that will last a lifetime! Canadian G2011-12-07Verified True camp experience with amazing staff I went to this camp with my girlfriends in November 2010 and it was our final stop in a 10 day trip, which started in Kenya. After 10 days of driving and staying at several camps this one stood out because of the great staff. We were met in the rain by the camp manager who had a huge smile on his face and a nice beverage for us. It poured that night, so the staff went that extra mile to make sure we were feed well and got a great night sleep. When I say true camp experience, it is becasue a pride of lions had been in the camp that night and woke me up in the middle of the night. Stargazer12y2011-08-30Verified Most friendly staff We travelled to Kenya and Tanzania with Kensington in Oct, both myself and my now fiance. The camp was the one location where I was concerned about accommodation because my fiance is not a 'camp' person. He always says that he'll only stay in a 4 star place and hates staying in more budget 3 star hotels - so needless to say I was a little nervous. We drove directly from Mara West to Serengeti, eating our box lunch in the car in hopes of having time for game viewing that afternoon in the Serengeti. This drive took about 6hrs to the gate and we were rewarded with sights of wildebeest and gazelle on our way to the camp. It started to rain just as we arrived and there was a staff person, waiting outside with umbrella and two drinks for us. After the long drive, I was so moved by this little gesture and it was such a great welcome to the camp. We ended up just relaxing that night and listening to the rain on the tent roof, sipping drinks, and recounting that day's adventures - our driver tried to help a huge tour truck stuck on the road from Mara (the tourists couldn't believe that the two of us had our own vehicle!!). Anyway, I'm rambling. The staff served us a 3 course dinner that night with starter, dish and a simple desert of fruit. We crashed opted to sleep in a bit the next morning, going for a late morning game drive. Breakfast was a full spread with porrige; they asked us if we wanted eggs or any 'meat', toast, and fruit. Very filling and tasty. Then off on game drive where we focused on finding a leopard for my honey. No luck in finding one, but we saw hippo, cranes, gazelle, crocodile, and a recent lion kill!! All in all, what was my biggest worry turned into one of our trip highlights. My finace left this camp blown away by the comfortable rooms, incredible service, and beautiful location (he just couldn't get over being right in the Serengeti plains, watching the rain across the plains, sunrise/sunset, and sounds of animals at night!). It was a great experience. Note: If you're the type of person who is going to get scared by the sound of animals outside, want a pool or restaurant, then this isn't the place for you. If not, then this camp is unforgettable!! travelguy8082010-10-08Verified My favorite camp on safari My g/f and I took a 10 day trip through Kenya/Tanzania hitting all the highlight game parks on the way. This camp/park by far was my favorite. Although the game was sparse since the migration was still in Masai Mara and the northern woodlands of the Serengeti, the camp made it my favorite. The people who operate the camp were absolutely awesome. I really felt like I was on safari there, the tent was more like a tent, not a permanent structure with all the amenities. The food was awesome, they made us a bush supper one night. The best part is in the evening after supper we could sit by the campfire and share our stories from our day's travels through the park. I will definitely be going back to this camp and spending more time in the Serengeti in the future. nastraveler2010-09-11Verified We are not campers......but loved this place We stayed at this tented camp for 2 nights and loved it. Yes, they are tents and things might not work as perfectly as a 5 start hotel, but you are in the middle of the Serengeti. It doesn't get much better than that! Our tent was very clean and bug free. Our shower was not perfect, but they fixed it immediately. The zipper broke on the tent and someone came to fix it. The staff was wonderful, friendly and very professional. Meeting every night at the fire to talk to the other guests was great. We were able to visit with other Kensington guests and share our table for dinner. We had some of the best meals of our trip here. We were served for lunch beef kabobs that rival anything I have had. For dinner that same night was a tasty pork chop. I am a very picky eater and was very pleased with the food we had. Sleeping at night with the natural sounds of the wild was incredible. We could hear the lions at night and in the morning there was a herd of wildebeasts not far from the camp. The tents were far apart and we could not hear anything but the animals. There also was a full moon when we were there which lighted up the night beautifully. This is a tented camp. I have stayed at nicer hotels, but would return to this one in a heartbeat. It offers what others can't.........nature at it's best. JackEaster2010-07-16Verified Highlight of a seven-day safari My wife and I, two children and their spouses recently traveled to Tanzania for a seven- day safari. We spent 5 nights at various luxury lodges and 2 nights at the Kensington tent camp, which turned out to be the highlight of our entire trip. Douglas, the camp manager, and his staff of seven were extremely friendly and eager to please. The food was more than ample and very well prepared. Wish I had gotten the recipe for "a killer" vegetarian lasagna they served for lunch. Our tents were spacious, with 2 queen size beds, well maintained and clean. Bath facilities were inside the tent and more than adequate. You must schedule with the staff when you want hot water for showers. And then remember not to get sidetracked around the campfire or your hot water will be gone. The three tents we occupied were each spaced 50 to 75 meters from any surrounding tents so other guests did not bother us. . If you want a "Safari experience", staying close to the things you came to Africa to see, hearing the lions, monkeys and hyenas as go to sleep, then I strongly recommend this camp. The six of us certainly weren't disappointed SMartelLittleton_CO2010-07-12Verified Excellent Experience with Kensington Serengeti - Susan Martel On a recent trip to Tanzania, my husband and I had the pleasure of staying in the Kensington Serengeti tented camp. What a delight that was! I could camp every day, if my accommodations were always this lovely. Our spotlessly-clean tent was roomy with two queen beds and the attached bath was great. We had no problems with bugs at all and we always felt very safe there. The best part was going to sleep at night and hearing the sound of lions roaring in the distance. Definitely Africa at its best! The food was excellent - even for a vegetarian like me. I'll never forget the cream of tomato soup from our first night there. Delicious and in ample portions, too. The wine was very reasonably priced and the selection was surprisingly good. We were particularly impressed with the attentive and friendly staff there. They made us feel very welcome and we especially loved the evenings chatting by the fire. The location was the perfect jumping-off point for game drives in the Serengeti. We cannot say enough good things about this property and we highly recommend it. Thanks to all there for making it one of the high points of our trip! Susan Martel PlanetR2010-07-10Verified Least Favorite Place I was concerned about this place during the planning process because of the lack of good reviews. We spent 2 nights here at the end of our safari. This is a mobile camp, but from what I gathered it really is permanent with mobile features. The tent size was pretty big. It was too close to the tent next door. I could hear the people flushing their toilets and their normal conversations. The tents were poorly maintained. Our shower head would fall off and hit you on the head during your very brief shower. You told them when you'd shower and they'd make sure you had hot water. The toilet leaked dirty toilet water all over the floor. They were able to fix the shower head, the toilet they just put a bucket to catch the waste water. It was pretty gross and substandard. The tent zipper did not always work and once we had to get on the ground and crawl out on all fours to leave the tent. It was hard to keep the flies and other insects out of the tent. My husband found a spider in the bathroom the size of a mouse. There were biting safari ants right outside the tent where they set up chairs to sit in. Our guide kept getting ants up his pant legs. I recieved numerous bites probably flies. They had a camp fire before dinner each night. We visited with the few other guests that were there. Only 10 total tents. Everyone else there was on a Kensington Tour. We were not. I agree with the previous review that the food was not very good and you were limited in quantity not like other places where you could have all you wanted. No choices here. We played a game of scrabble in the lounge tent set up with tables and couches to hangout. Some workers drove up blaring their African rap style music making a lot of noise that we thought was inappropriate to us. Mostly my opinions are negative, but one positive was my son's birthday. They helped me decorate the dining tent and prepared a birthday cake. They presented it in the dark with candles lit to surprise him. They marched around and sang to him. This was very nice. They try hard, but my expectations of a clean place in good working order free of pests was not met here. I would not recommend this camp based on my experiences.
